Own experience combined with old tradition

New violin construction

I've been playing a cello made by Mr Lemke since 2021. I love it!

Cello - Frank Lemke "Stradivari Saveuse 1726" Köln 2021

Following an old tradition, I make the tops of my violins, violas and cellos, which are built according to historical models, exclusively from "Spaltholz" (not sawn, but splitted wood). This material, which is extremely rare, especially for cellos, offers superior sound quality due to its greater elasticity.

Sound quality is also a feature of the violins of Guarneri del Gesù and Antonio Pedrinelli (1781–1854). That is why I build my violins according to various Guarneri models and an original from Pedrinelli's best period.

To build my violas, I use the "Conte Vitale" model by Andrea Guarneri from 1676 (41.9 cm) and an original by Joseph Bacchetta from 1781 (41.4 cm). The historical models combine easy playability with a dark timbre and a great tone.

I build my cellos according to the ‘Comte de Saveuse 1726’ model by Antonio Stradivari, which sounds soloistic with a length of 72.5 cm and has the dimensions of a 7/8 instrument. Another favourite model is the 74.6 cm cello by Alessandro Gagliano from 1704. Both models have a carrying, room-filling sound and are suitable for ambitious musicians.
